15 August; Independence Day: India is going to celebrate its 79th Independence Day, this Independence Day PM Narendra Modi will hoist the flag at the Red Fort, know what will be the full program on 15 August.

India will celebrate its 79th Independence Day on 15th August 2025, which will be led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from the iconic Red Fort in Delhi. The Prime Minister will hoist the national flag from the ramparts of the iconic monument and address the entire nation. As the country is rapidly moving towards realising the Government’s vision of a developed India by 2047, the theme of this year’s Independence Day celebrations has been kept as “New India”. The celebrations will serve as a platform to provide new energy to move forward on the path of continuous development and progress of a prosperous, secure and empowered new India.

These leaders will welcome PM Modi

On his arrival at the Red Fort, the Prime Minister will be welcomed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth and Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh. The Defence Secretary will introduce Lieutenant General Bhavnish Kumar, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Delhi Area, to the Prime Minister. Thereafter, the GOC, Delhi Area will escort Narendra Modi to the saluting dais where a joint contingent of inter-services and Delhi Police Guard will salute the Prime Minister. After this, the Prime Minister will inspect the Guard of Honour.

PM’s Guard of Honour contingent will have 96 jawans
The Guard of Honour contingent for the Prime Minister will consist of 96 jawans (one officer and 24 jawans each from the Army, Navy, Air Force and Delhi Police. The Indian Air Force is coordinating the Independence Day celebrations this year. The Guard of Honour will be commanded by Wing Commander A S Sekhon. The Army contingent in the Prime Minister’s Guard will be commanded by Major Arjun Singh, the Navy contingent will be commanded by Lieutenant Commander Komaldeep Singh and the Air Force contingent will be commanded by Squadron Leader Rajan Arora. The Delhi Police contingent will be commanded by Additional DCP Rohit Rajbir Singh.

The chiefs of the three services will welcome PM Modi
After inspecting the Guard of Honour, the Prime Minister will proceed to the ramparts of the Red Fort where he will be received by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth, Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan, Chief of Army Staff Gen Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi and Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal AP Singh. The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Delhi Area will be there to hoist the national flag to the Prime Minister. The ceremonial battery, using indigenous 105 mm Light Field Gun, will be commanded by Major Pawan Singh Shekhawat and the Gun Position Officer will be Naib Subedar (Assistant Instructor in Gunnery) Anutosh Sarkar. Flying Officer Rashika Sharma will assist the Prime Minister in hoisting the National Flag. The ceremonial battery will be commanded by the gallant gunners of 1721 Field Battery (Ceremonial) with a 21-gun salute. The ceremonial battery, using indigenous 105 mm Light Field Gun, will be commanded by Major Pawan Singh Shekhawat and the Gun Position Officer will be Naib Subedar (Assistant Instructor in Gunnery) Anutosh Sarkar.

Prime Minister will give national salute after flag hoisting
The National Flag Guard, which will include one officer each from the Army, Navy, Air Force and Delhi Police and 32 other ranks, a total of 128 personnel, will give the national salute when the Prime Minister hoists the national flag. Wing Commander Tarun Dagar will command this inter-service guard and police guard. In the National Flag Guard, the Army contingent will be commanded by Major Prakash Singh, the Navy contingent will be commanded by Lieutenant Commander Mohammad Parvez and the Air Force contingent will be commanded by Squadron Leader V.V. Sharavan. Apart from this, the Delhi Police contingent will be commanded by Additional DCP Abhimanyu Poswal.

The band will be conducted by Junior Warrant Officer M Deka

After the flag hoisting, the tricolor will be given a ‘National Salute’. The Air Force Band, consisting of one JCO and 25 other ranks, will play the national anthem while hoisting the national flag and giving the ‘National Salute’. The band will be conducted by Junior Warrant Officer M Deka. This will be the first time that 11 Agniveer air musicians will also be part of the band playing the national anthem. As soon as the Prime Minister hoists the national flag, two MI-17 helicopters of the Indian Air Force, one carrying the national flag and the other carrying the flag depicting ‘Operation Sindoor’, will shower flowers at the venue. The captains of these helicopters will be Wing Commander Vinay Poonia and Wing Commander Aditya Jaiswal.

The success of Operation Sindoor will be celebrated
This year, the success of Operation Sindoor will also be celebrated during the Independence Day celebrations. The logo of Operation Sindoor will be present on the view cutter on Gyanpath. The floral decoration will also be based on this operation. The logo of Operation Sindoor will also be printed on the invitation cards. Also, the watermark of Chenab Bridge will also be made on the invitation cards, which shows the rise of ‘New India’.

Building ‘New India’ on Gyanpath
After the flower shower, the Prime Minister will address the nation. After the Prime Minister concludes his speech, National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets and ‘My India’ volunteers will sing the national anthem. A total of 2,500 male and female cadets (Army, Navy and Air Force) and ‘My India’ volunteers will participate in the ceremony. These cadets and ‘My India’ volunteers will be present on Gyanpath in front of the ramparts. All of them will sit in the shape of the logo of ‘New India’.

Around 5,000 special guests from various fields have been invited to attend the ceremony to be held at the Red Fort this year. These include:

  • Best performing farmers under Conservation, Development and Sustainable Management of Medicinal Plants Scheme
  • Best performing farmers, traders/cooperatives receiving loans under Credit Guarantee Scheme for e-Negotiable Warehouse Receipts
  • Best performing Sarpanchs of Open Defecation Free Plus villages
  • Best performing Sarpanchs of Catch the Rain Abhiyaan
  • Best performing young writers skilled and trained under PM-Vikas Yojana
  • Best performing entrepreneurs under PM Van Dhan Yojana by TRIFED
  • Best performing entrepreneurs from SC/ST community under National SC/ST Hub Scheme

These arrangements will be there for the visitors

  • Clock room arrangements: During the Republic Day celebrations, visitors appreciated the availability of clock rooms. Hence, for the convenience of the users, 25 clock rooms have been set up at 12 locations for the first time during the Independence Day celebrations as well.
  • Volunteers at helpdesk: 190 volunteers (120 from ‘My Bharat’ and 70 from NCC) along with police personnel will help the visitors to reach the venue. Visitors can identify the volunteers on the way to the Red Fort.
  • Wheelchair arrangements: For all visitors requiring wheelchairs, NCC cadets will be present at metro stations and parking areas.
  • Additional car parking facilities: Car parking for 250 additional cars has been arranged in parking number 4A.
  • Metro services: To help people reach the venue easily, metro services will start from 4 am on August 15.

Competitions to be held

To commemorate Independence Day, the Ministry of Defence in collaboration with MyGov organised quizzes and competitions. The details of the competitions are as follows:

  • Structure Design Competition on Gyanpath
  • Essay Competition on the theme ‘Operation Sindoor – Redefining India’s Policy against Terrorism’
  • Reel Competition: Tour of Monuments/Places associated with India’s Independence
  • Painting Competition on the theme ‘New India Empowered India’

Series of Online Quiz Competitions:

  • Role of Women in Building a New India
  • India’s Battlefield: India’s Border
  • Rise of Self-Reliant Innovation in the Field of National Security
  • Around 1,000 winners of these competitions will also be a part of the celebrations.

Military Band Performance

To promote the spirit of patriotism among the citizens of the country and celebrate the victory of Operation Sindoor, for the first time, band performances will be organised at many places across India on the evening of the Independence Day celebrations. These performances will be presented by the bands of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Indian Coast Guard, NCC, CRPF, ITBP, CISF, SSB, BSF, IDS, RPF and Assam Rifles at over 140 prominent locations across the country.
