Operation continues
The operation of security forces to eliminate Naxalites on the Chhattisgarh-Odisha border has been going on for more than 24 hours. Earlier, there was an encounter on Monday in which female Naxalites were killed. At the same time, a soldier of CRPF’s Cobra Battalion was injured. After this, there was an encounter late on Monday night and Tuesday morning, in which there is news of 16 Naxalites being killed.
So far after the Gariaband encounter, the bodies of 16 Naxalites have been recovered. AK 47, SLR, INSAS and other automatic weapons have been recovered from the encounter site. The search operation is going on. The Naxalites killed also include Jairam alias Chalpati, a Naxalite with a reward of Rs 1 crore.
Who all are involved in the operation?
The security forces had received information about the presence of a large number of Naxalites or Maoists in the Kularighat Reserve Forest of Chhattisgarh. This area is located about five kilometers from the border of Nuapada district of Odisha. After this, the security forces started an operation against the Naxalites on the night of January 19. According to the information, this operation against the Naxalites includes a joint team of District Reserve Guard (DRG), CRPF from Chhattisgarh and SOG from Odisha.
Can the number increase further?
During the operation on Monday, a large quantity of weapons, ammunition and a ‘self-loading’ rifle were recovered from the encounter site and a landmine was detected. He said that the number of Maoists killed may increase. Raipur area Police IG Amresh Mishra has said that many top Naxalites are likely to be killed in this encounter.
