Violence continues

Mate Bagosi, the UN humanitarian adviser for Papua New Guinea, said that as of Sunday, information about the death of at least 20 people has been received from community members and local authorities in Enga province. “We have confirmed that at least 20 people have been killed, but according to the last news I have, the number could be up to 50,” Bagossi told The Associated Press. He said the violence was continuing.

Security forces deployed

“Today some security forces have started entering the area. So it remains to be seen what impact this will have,” Mate Bagossi, a U.N. humanitarian adviser, said, referring to the army and police. Bagossi did not have information on the number of injured.
