8 out of 12 convicts convicted by special MCOCA court Mumbai in 11th July 2006 7 local train blasts case were released on PR bond on the orders of Bombay High Court yesterday

On Monday, on the orders of the Bombay High Court, 8 out of 12 convicts convicted by the special MCOCA court, Mumbai, in the 7 local train bomb blasts case in Mumbai on 11 July 2006 have been released on personal bonds (PR bonds). These convicts were earlier sentenced to death and life imprisonment.

In total, 8 out of 12 convicts have been released on Monday. While 2 could not be released due to other cases, one died of corona, and one is on parole.

Status of all accused

Yerwada Jail:

Arif Khan Bashir Khan has been released.

Mohammed Faizal Abdul Rehman Sheikh (death sentence) was not released due to another pending case.

Nagpur Jail:

Mohammed Ali Alam Sher Sheikh (life imprisonment) has been released.
Ehtesham Qutubuddin Siddiqui (death sentence) has been released.

Naveed Hussain Rashid Hussain Khan (death sentence) was not released due to two other pending cases.

Kamal Ansari (death sentence) died of corona disease in 2021.

Amravati Prison:

Dr. Tanveer Ahmed Ansari has been released.
Sohail Mahmood Sheikh has been released.
Zameer Ahmed Latifur Rahman Sheikh has been released.
Mohammad Sajid Mohammad Shafi has been released.

Nashik Road Prison:

Muzzammil Ataur Rahman Sheikh (death sentence) has been released.
Sajid Maghrub Ansari was not released as he was on parole.
The verdict came 19 years after the attack

The Bombay High Court on Monday acquitted all 12 accused in the case of seven bomb blasts in several trains in Mumbai on July 11, 2006, saying that the prosecution had completely failed to prove the case against them and it was difficult to believe that the accused had committed the crime. The verdict came 19 years after the terrorist attack that shook the city’s western railway network. More than 180 people lost their lives and many others were injured in this attack.
