Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s most ambitious project, the Ganga Expressway, is now very close to its inauguration. The completion of this mega-project has been awaited for years. CM Yogi wanted to inaugurate the Ganga Expressway before the last Kumbh Mela, but that didn’t happen. However, preparations for the inauguration of the expressway during the Magh Mela are now in full swing.
According to officials of the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEDA), more than 98 percent of the construction work on the Ganga Expressway has been completed. Only 2 percent of the finishing work remains in one section, which is targeted for completion by December 15th. After inspection by road safety and quality expert teams, the expressway will be opened for trial runs.
When will the inauguration take place?
It is expected that after a successful trial run of about 15 days, Prime Minister Narendra Modi may inaugurate it on the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti, i.e., January 15th. This 594-kilometer-long expressway from Meerut to Prayagraj includes a total of 1498 major structures, of which 1497 have already been completed. The first phase, a 129-kilometer stretch from Meerut to Budaun, is completely ready.
Emergency landing of fighter planes will be possible
Airstrips have been constructed at 5 locations on this expressway, where emergency landings of fighter planes will be possible. In addition, this expressway will accelerate industrial development in districts like Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Budaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Raebareli, Pratapgarh, and Prayagraj. An industrial corridor is also being developed along both sides of the expressway.
No decision has yet been made regarding the toll prices on the Ganga Expressway, but it is estimated that a toll of Rs 2.55 per kilometer will be charged for cars. The maximum speed on the expressway will be 160 kilometers per hour, which will allow the journey from Meerut to Prayagraj to be completed in just 6-7 hours.
