Kolkata: Is Bangladesh crossing its limits? Border Guard Bangladesh jawans are trying to obstruct the work of installing barbed wire (fencing) on the border in Cooch Behar, West Bengal

Kolkata: Is Bangladesh crossing its limits? The kind of events that have come to light in recent times makes this question inevitable. Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel are trying to obstruct the work of fencing on the border in Cooch Behar, West Bengal. A dispute broke out between the BGB and local villagers over fencing at the Dahagram Angarpata border in Mekhliganj in Cooch Behar district. In the end, the villagers continued the work of installing barbed wire along with the BSF. Let us tell you that so far one and a half kilometers of barbed wire has been installed and it is being said that 2 kilometers more barbed wire will be installed.

Attempt to create tension in relations
The question arises that why is BGB repeatedly obstructing the installation of barbed wire on the border? India’s view of the government that is in power now after the ouster of Sheikh Hasina in Bangladesh has not been positive so far. Although India is trying hard to keep the relations between the two countries positive, no such attitude is seen from Bangladesh. Tensions have increased on the India-Bangladesh border. The situation reached such a point that BSF and BGB officials had to hold a flag meeting.

BSF and BGB flag meeting

At the same time, the commander of the 58th battalion of BGB, Lieutenant Colonel, gave a statement that BGB has taken control of five km area on the banks of Kodanilaya river. After this, tension increased. A flag meeting of BSF and BGB was called. BSF called BGB’s statement misleading. At the same time, BGB soldiers also tried to stop the work of laying barbed wire in Sukhdevpur area of Malda.

591 km border will be fenced
Let us tell you that fencing is to be done on the 591 km long border on the India-Bangladesh border. Also, construction of floodlights and border posts and observation towers is included. At the same time, there is a lot of politics going on in the state regarding this. TMC and BJP are blaming each other. BJP leader Shubhendu also alleged that lack of support from the state government is hindering the construction of a fence to prevent infiltration on the India-Bangladesh border. He claimed that the process of land acquisition for building a fence on the 284 km long border is ‘pending’ at the state level.
