The Indian Coast Guard (IGC) ship has successfully rescued 54 passengers stranded in the sea area of ​​the Union Territory of Lakshadweep. These include 22 women and 23 children. In fact, on Tuesday, January 14, a boat going from Kavaratti to Suhelipar Island suddenly went missing. In which 54 people were on board. After receiving a call from Lakshadweep, the IGC immediately took action and started an operation to search for the boat.

According to the Indian Coast Guard, at around 2:30 pm, the Lakshadweep administration informed the Indian Coast Guard based in Kavaratti that a boat which had left Kavaratti for Suhelipar Island at 12:15 pm did not reach its destination. During this time, there was no contact with the passengers and crew members on the boat. The boat was expected to reach Suhelipar by 9 am.

The engine of the boat had broken down
The 54 passengers on board the boat included 22 women, 9 men, 3 newborns and 20 children. As soon as the information about the matter was received, the Indian Coast Guard started a search and rescue mission without any delay. The operation was carried out from Kavaratti and the boat was located. During this, it was found that the engine of the boat had broken down and due to this it was stranded in the sea.

The boat was 4 nautical miles away from Suhelipar Island

At around 4:30 pm, the Coast Guard located the boat, which was 4 nautical miles away from Suhelipar Island. After this, all the passengers were safely boarded on the vessel and given first aid and relief material. The next day on Wednesday, January 15, at 9 am, all the passengers were safely transported to Kavaratti.

After this incident, the Coast Guard has appealed to the administration to avoid overloading on boats and keep safety equipment mandatory. Coast Guard officials have praised this search and rescue operation and their prompt action is also being appreciated by the local administration. This rescue operation proves the readiness of the Indian Coast Guard and the resolve of ‘Vayam Rakshamah’ i.e. ‘We protect’.
