A mountain of sorrow has fallen on the family of Olympic medalist Manu Bhaker. Her maternal uncle and maternal grandmother died in a road accident in Charkhi Dadri on Sunday morning. A speeding Brezza car hit their scooter. The accident was so terrible that both died on the spot. The car driver fled, the police is searching for him. Manu Bhaker was recently awarded the Khel Ratna award by the President. This tragic incident happened to her family just a few days after this happiness.
Uncle was going to duty
On Sunday morning, Manu’s maternal uncle Yudhveer was riding a scooty with his mother Savitri. Yudhveer was a driver in Haryana Roadways and was going to duty. Savitri was going to her younger son’s house at Loharu Chowk. Near Kaliana turn on Mahendragarh bypass road, a speeding Brezza car coming from the wrong direction hit their scooty.
The collision was so severe that the scooty was completely damaged. Both Yudhveer (50 years) and Savitri (65 years) died on the spot. The Brezza car also overturned on the roadside. After the accident, the car driver fled from the spot. As soon as the police got the information, they reached the spot and sent the bodies for post-mortem. The police have registered a case and the search for the absconding driver is on. Yudhveer and Savitri were residents of Kalali village in Bhiwani district.
Manu created history
Manu Bhaker created history at the Paris 2024 Olympics, becoming the first Indian athlete to win two medals in the same edition of the Games since independence. She won a bronze medal in the individual 10m air pistol event. She is also India’s first female shooter to win a medal at the Olympics. She later teamed up with Sarabjot Singh to win a bronze medal in the 10m air pistol mixed team event.
