Varanasi: A court in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh has ordered the police to register an FIR against four people for attacking a pregnant woman and causing the death of her unborn child due to fear of ghosts. Giving information about this on Tuesday, an advocate Vikas Singh said that the court of Special Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Ashwini Kumar issued this order on Monday after hearing the petition filed by the victim Poonam Kumari to the Inspector in Charge (SHO) of Bhelupur police station.
‘Abused me, mother-in-law calling me ‘Bhoothi”
The petition of Poonam Kumari, a resident of Ranipur in Bhelupur, Varanasi, was submitted through her advocate Vikas Singh under Section 175 (3) of the BNS. According to the complaint, the incident took place on the night of 2 September 2024 at around 10:30 pm, when Poonam heard sounds of abuse and vandalism outside her house. When Poonam came out, she saw that accused Gautam Bind, his brother Saroj Bind, Hari Bind and Raja Bind were breaking the glass of her husband’s e-rickshaw. When Poonam protested, the accused abused her and her mother-in-law calling them ‘Bhoothi’ and accused them of doing black magic or witchcraft on their family.
‘Miscarriage happened due to the injury sustained in the attack’
According to Poonam, during this time Gautam Bind climbed the roof and picked up a brick from there and hit Poonam on her stomach. Due to this attack, Poonam fell unconscious on the ground and due to serious injury she had a miscarriage. After the incident, people from the nearby area gathered on hearing the noise, but the attackers fled from there threateningly. Poonam was immediately admitted to the hospital. When no action was taken despite complaining to the police, Poonam approached the court. Vikas Singh said that the court took the matter seriously and ordered the Bhelupur police station in-charge to immediately register an FIR against Gautam Bind, Saroj Bind, Hari Bind and Raja Bind and take necessary action.
