Grammy Awards: Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Indian-American singer Chandrika Tandon on winning the Grammy Award. The PM said that it is commendable that she is passionate about Indian culture and is working to popularize it. PM Modi also mentioned meeting her in 2023. The 67th edition of the Recording Academy’s biggest music awards ceremony was held in Los Angeles, USA on Sunday.

PM Modi posted on X and congratulated Chandrika Tandon, saying, “Congratulations to Chandrika Tandon on winning the Grammy Award for the album Triveni. We take great pride in her accomplishments as an entrepreneur, philanthropist and ofcourse, music! It is commendable how she has remained passionate about Indian culture and has been working to popularise it. She is an inspiration to many. I fondly remember meeting her in New York in 2023.”

Other artists were also nominated in the Best New Age, Ambient or Chant Album category. These included Break of Dawn written by Ricky Kej, Opus written by Ryuichi Sakamoto, How Dark It Is Before Dawn written by Anoushka Shankar and Warriors of Light by Radhika Vekariya.

Who is Chandrika Tandon?

Chandrika Tandon is the elder sister of global business leader and former PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi. She won the award along with her colleagues, South African flutist Wouter Kellerman and Japanese cellist Iru Matsumoto. On winning the award, she said that it feels amazing.

Chandrika Tandon was nominated in 2011

This is not the first time Chandrika Tandon has been recognised by the Recording Academy. She was nominated for a Grammy in 2011 for her album ‘Soul Call’, which included spiritual music, in the Contemporary World Music category. Although she did not win the award that year, she got success with the album ‘Triveni’.
