The election campaign going on for the last 1 month in the capital Delhi finally ended on Monday, February 3, 2025 at 5 pm. In the election campaign, candidates and political parties held public meetings, road shows and sought votes for their victory. This time social media was also a big center of publicity of political parties in Delhi, where political parties spent crores of rupees on social media promotion in the last 1 month.
On examining the data of social media platforms Facebook and Google, it was found that in the last 1 month, political parties have spent more than Rs 31 crore 52 lakh only on online promotion in the Delhi elections. This expenditure includes political advertisements appearing in between videos on online video streaming platforms YouTube and Facebook as well as content promotion posts.
Congress spent more than 7 crores on Google
On examining the data of both the platforms, it was found that, according to Google, BJP spent Rs 17 crore 40 lakh on online advertising on its platform YouTube and website. On the other hand, Congress spent more than 7 crore 27 lakh rupees on online advertisements on Google’s platforms. Similarly, the ruling party of Delhi, Aam Aadmi Party, spent 1 crore 82 lakh rupees on Google’s platforms in the last 1 month. In total, these three parties spent more than 26 crore 49 lakh rupees on Google for their election advertisements.
Political parties spent crores on Facebook
Apart from Google, Facebook was also a big center for political propaganda in this election. According to Facebook’s parent company Meta, in the last 1 month, BJP spent more than 3 crore 66 lakh rupees on Facebook for propaganda, while Congress spent more than 54 lakh rupees on Facebook for propaganda. Similarly, the ruling party of Delhi, Aam Aadmi Party, spent 82 lakh rupees on Facebook for the propaganda of its party and candidates. That is, these three parties spent more than 5 crore 3 lakh rupees on Facebook for their online propaganda.
BJP spent the most
Talking about the total expenditure in the elections, according to Facebook’s transparency report and Google’s transparency report, BJP spent the most in the Delhi elections, which spent more than 21 crore rupees on digital publicity in the last 1 month. Similarly, Aam Aadmi Party also spent 2 crore 64 lakh rupees on digital publicity in the last 1 month for the Delhi elections. At the same time, Congress, which has been hoping to return to power in Delhi for the last 12 years, has also spent 7 crore 81 lakh rupees on digital advertising in the Delhi elections.
