A US military plane carrying illegal Indian immigrants landed in Amritsar on Wednesday afternoon. This is the first action against the immigrants of the country after the Donald Trump administration took office. 104 people have arrived in this plane. The plane landed at Sri Guru Ramdas Ji International Airport amid tight security of Punjab Police.
The number of Indians who have come in the US Army’s C-17 plane whose identity has been revealed is 104. These include people from Punjab, Gujarat and Haryana. Most of the people are under 40 years of age. Some of them are women as well.
When the plane landed at the airport, the Amritsar Police Commissioner, DC and all other senior administrative officers were present at the airport. Background checks of all the deported Indians have been done at the Aviation Club located at the airport.
At the same time, the Director of Amritsar Airport, Deputy Commissioner, Police Commissioner and CIF Director had a meeting. During this time, as a security measure, barricading was done at the cargo gate and another entrance of the airport.
It is awaited what will happen to the people who have reached here now. Because the authorities have also said that the records of all the people will be checked. There is also a possibility that there might be someone among them who has a criminal background or has absconded from India after committing a crime.
This action was taken before PM Modi’s US visit
Yesterday, an official confirmed that a C-17 aircraft carrying Indians has left for India. This has happened before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day visit to the US, where he is also scheduled to meet and talk to Trump.
Prime Minister Modi and Trump recently had a conversation, in which they discussed immigration along with other matters of global peace and security. Trump had said about the conversation, ‘Discussed immigration with Modi. India will do what is right in the matter of taking back illegal immigrants.’ India had assured the US of cooperation in dealing with illegal immigration by taking back immigrants who have entered the US illegally.
