India summoned Bangladesh High Commissioner Mohammad Nurul Islam. He was called over the issue of rhetoric against India for Bangladesh’s internal affairs. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that he was summoned on February 7, 2025 at 5:00 pm. He was told that India wants positive, constructive and mutually beneficial relations with Bangladesh, which has been reiterated several times in recent high-level meetings.

India’s Foreign Ministry said, “It is regrettable that the statements made by Bangladesh officials show India in a negative light. They also hold us responsible for the internal issues of Bangladesh.” Hasina, in an online address on Wednesday, called on her supporters to stand against the interim government in Bangladesh.

She accused the Yunus government of usurping power in an unconstitutional manner. Even before Hasina’s address, thousands of protesters demolished and set fire to the house of her father and Bangladesh’s founding leader Mujibur Rahman. Violence continued even after Hasina’s speech. On this, the Foreign Ministry said that Sheikh Hasina’s statement is her personal statement and India has nothing to do with it.

We hope that Bangladesh will also make similar efforts without spoiling the atmosphere.” After the release of Sheikh Hasina’s video message, Bangladesh asked India to stop ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from making false and fabricated comments while in the country.

India strongly condemned the burning of Sheikh Mujibur’s house. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal condemned the destruction of Rahman’s house and called it a barbaric act. He said, “All those who value the freedom struggle, which nurtured Bengali identity and pride, are aware of the importance of this residence to the national consciousness of Bangladesh.”
