Noida Traffic Police has started cracking down on dilapidated commercial vehicles. Now vehicle owners will have to keep their vehicles in good condition. If a vehicle breaks down on the Noida Expressway, a fine of up to Rs 20,000 can be imposed on it. According to the traffic police, ‘challan’ can be issued for commercial vehicles that stop due to any disturbance on the Noida Expressway and obstruct the traffic flow.
The traffic police, under section 201 of the Motor Vehicles Act 1988, can also impose a minimum fine of Rs 5000 for an unexpected situation like a tire puncture, for obstructing the free flow of traffic.
There is a jam at these places
According to PTI news, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Lakhan Singh Yadav said that the aim is to increase awareness among commercial vehicle owners so that they keep an eye on their vehicles and avoid traffic jams. About 8 to 10 lakh vehicles pass through the Noida Expressway. Areas like DND flyover, Chilla border, Prerna Sthal etc. are the main hotspots where traffic problems are most common. He said commercial vehicles include buses, trucks, DCMs, overloaded vehicles etc.
22 vehicles seized in seven days
The Deputy Commissioner of Police clarified that the fine will be imposed on private vehicles. The DCP said, in the last seven days we have seized 22 vehicles for breakdown and have also challaned around 210 vehicles. Greater Noida resident Krishan Kumar Sharma said, this is a good initiative and will help reduce unwanted traffic disruptions on the Noida Expressway. However, another resident Anil Kumar Chetiwal said, vehicles in emergency situations like a punctured tyre or any technical problem should not be fined.
