Jammu Kashmir Law: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will review the new criminal laws implemented in Jammu and Kashmir today. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will also be present in this meeting. According to Home Ministry sources, the meeting will be held in North Block, Delhi, where top officials of the Center and Jammu and Kashmir government will also participate. The purpose of this meeting is to know how these new laws have been implemented in the state and whether any challenges are being faced.
From July 1 last year, the Indian Judicial Code, Indian Civil Defense Code and Indian Evidence Act were implemented across the country. These new laws replaced the British rule’s Indian Penal Code (IPC), Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) and Indian Evidence Act of 1872. Home Minister Amit Shah has already reviewed the implementation of new laws in many states including Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. Now its status will be assessed in Jammu and Kashmir, which will show to what extent they have been followed there and whether there is a need for improvement.
Today there will be a discussion on the effective implementation of new criminal laws
Law and order in Jammu and Kashmir comes directly under the central government. However, CM Omar Abdullah has also been invited to this meeting. It is worth noting that Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh were divided into two separate union territories in 2019 by ending the status of special state. Since then, many major changes have taken place in Jammu and Kashmir from the security and administrative point of view. This meeting will make it clear how effectively the new criminal laws have been implemented in Jammu and Kashmir and what improvements can be made in their implementation further.
