West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, while addressing the Assembly on Tuesday, claimed that the Maha Kumbh has become a ‘Mrityu Kumbh’. She alleged that the actual number of people who died in this Maha Kumbh has been hidden. At least 30 people died and 60 were injured in a stampede in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh last month. At the same time, 18 people lost their lives in a stampede at New Delhi Railway Station recently.

CM Mamata Banerjee claimed in the West Bengal Assembly that the BJP government hid hundreds of bodies to show less number of deaths in the Maha Kumbh. Targeting the MLAs, she also claimed, ‘BJP MLAs are afraid to face me, so whenever I speak, they boycott the House.’ During this, the CM has also strongly condemned the allegations of linking her to the Muslim League.

CM Mamata Banerjee said, ‘I was accused of being a member of the Muslim League. I strongly condemn these baseless allegations. The Chief Minister said that she believes in secularism, coexistence and development of all communities. She said, ‘Am I a Muslim Leaguer? Why so angry with Muslim development? My 5 fingers are five religions. You take the support of Muslim League to defeat TMC.’

In her address, she said, ‘BJP alleged that I am a Muslim League leader. I have links with terrorists from Jammu and Kashmir and Bangladesh. If you have proof, I will immediately resign as Chief Minister. But if you do not have proof, I will write to the Prime Minister about your arrogance.’ CM Mamata said that if she has any connection with the fundamentalists, she will resign.

‘I am happy that the border is peaceful now’

She further said, ‘Everyone should remember that I belong to a Brahmin family. My father was a patriot, a freedom fighter.’ Banerjee credited her government for maintaining peace in Bengal despite the unrest in Bangladesh. He said, ‘Despite the unrest in Bangladesh, peace and harmony prevails in Bengal because of our government. I am happy that the border is peaceful now. I wish for peace in the country, there should be peace in Bangladesh.
