Rajasthan: The statement made by Rajasthan minister Avinash Gehlot in reference to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on Friday not only created a stir in the assembly but also ignited a spark in Rajasthan politics. This statement of the Rajasthan minister is being condemned, meanwhile former CM of the state Ashok Gehlot has also got angry over it, he has raised questions on BJP regarding this, he said, “All this is the result of the low level thinking of BJP which does not want to discuss the development of the state”.

What did Ashok Gehlot say?

Ashok Gehlot alleged, “It seems that the BJP government of Rajasthan does not want to run the assembly, so sometimes their ministers make baseless comments on the late Prime Minister and sometimes their MLAs make baseless comments on the late Chief Minister”.

Senior Congress leader said, “Today Minister Avinash Gehlot has made a low level comment on Indira Gandhi who sacrificed her life for the country. This cannot be tolerated. A few days ago, MLA Gopal Sharma accused former Chief Minister Shiv Charan Mathur of trying to encounter Kirori Lal Meena and Harish Sharma, which is very unfortunate. It should not be forgotten that Shiv Charan Mathur was also a freedom fighter. Gehlot said, “All this is the result of the low level thinking of BJP which does not want to discuss the development of the state.”

Gehlot said, “MPs are suspended” Ashok Gehlot said, “First a minister of the BJP government made an indecent comment on former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and then the suspension of Congress MLAs from the House who protested against not apologizing for it shows that the method of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha is being adopted in Rajasthan Assembly as well. Just like MPs are suspended there to hide their failures, the same has been done here.” Ashok Gehlot said, “After all, what was the need for the minister to make such a comment apart from his answer during the Question Hour?

Comments made with such petty mentality on a leader who has sacrificed her life for the country will not be tolerated. It seems that the entire government has become a spectacle. The government did not have any work to count in one year, so the speech of the Leader of Opposition, which would highlight its failures, was not allowed in the address. Now, our state president and MLAs from Dalit, backward, tribal and minority communities have been suspended from the budget session. Is this not an attempt to divert attention from the discussion on the budget?”

Let us tell you that there was a lot of uproar in the Rajasthan Assembly on Friday regarding this issue and the proceedings of the House had to be adjourned thrice amid the sloganeering of Congress MLAs. While answering a question regarding hostel for working women during Question Hour, Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Avinash Gehlot, pointing towards the opposition, said, “In the 2023-24 budget also, like every time, you named this scheme after your ‘dadi’ Indira Gandhi.”

Leader of Opposition Tikaram Julie objected to this and demanded an apology from the minister and removal of the word from the proceedings. After this, Congress MLAs started sloganeering and they came in front of the chair. Meanwhile, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Jogaram Patel said, “Dadi is a respected word.” Tikaram Julie wrote on the social media platform ‘X’, “The comment of the minister of BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) government on former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi is shameless and indecent.”

He asked the minister to apologize. MLA and Congress state unit president Govind Singh Dotasara also wrote on X, “Indira ji’s insult, Rajasthan will not tolerate it. BJP government minister Avinash Gehlot should apologize for commenting on former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.”

Meanwhile, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Patel told reporters outside the House, ”Today all our ministers were answering the questions effectively. The opposition got completely agitated. Dada, Dadi, Mama, Mami – these are not unparliamentary language, these are respectful words.” He said, ”I personally believe that if former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi is addressed as Dadi, then it is not unparliamentary but respectful words.”
