Uttarakhand: During the Uttarakhand assembly session, Congress MLA demanded a medical college, after the demand was rejected, allegations and counter-allegations intensified between the ruling and opposition parties

Uttarakhand: During the assembly session in Uttarakhand, Congress MLA Mamta Rakesh demanded the opening of a new medical college in Bhagwanpur, Haridwar. After which this issue became a topic of discussion. MLA Mamta Rakesh urged the government to establish a medical college in Bhagwanpur to further strengthen the health services of the district.

However, on this, Health Minister Dhan Singh Rawat clarified that according to government rules, only one medical college can be opened in any district. Health Minister Dhan Singh Rawat, while replying in the House, said that a medical college is already functioning in Haridwar district. He told that the state government is constantly trying to strengthen health services and more resources are also being provided to the already established medical college.

Health Minister cited rules

Health Minister Dhan Singh Rawat said, “Our government is continuously working to strengthen the health system of the state. There is already a medical college in Haridwar and under government rules, opening more than one medical college in a district is not allowed.”

The people of Bhagwanpur area have been demanding to open a medical college there for a long time. Local people believe that a medical college is needed to improve health services in this area. Bhagwanpur comes under the industrial area, where thousands of workers and their families live. In such a situation, a new medical college can solve the health problems of this area.

Congress MLA made this demand

Congress MLA Mamta Rakesh says that health facilities are limited in Haridwar district and due to the increasing population, the pressure on the existing medical college is increasing. He said, “Opening a medical college in an area like Bhagwanpur will not only benefit the local people but people of the surrounding districts will also benefit from it. This area has become an industrial hub and there is a great need for better health facilities here.”

On the other hand, other opposition parties including Congress have accused the government of not being serious about health services. The opposition says that the government is ignoring the demand to open a medical college in Bhagwanpur citing rules, whereas in many other states, rules have been changed giving priority to health facilities.

MLA Mamta Rakesh has demanded the government to reconsider this issue. She said, “If the rules are coming in the way, then they should be changed. The needs of the public should be primary, not government rules. If necessary, the state government can also implement this proposal by taking special permission from the Center.”

Dhan Singh Rawat’s counterattack
The Health Minister rejected the allegations of the opposition and said that the state government is constantly working to improve the health sector. He said that new hospitals and primary health centers are being opened in the state so that the public can get better health services.

Minister Dhan Singh Rawat said, “We are constantly working to strengthen health services in every district.” He said, “The goal of our government is that every person gets timely and proper health facilities. Apart from medical colleges, other health facilities are also being improved.”
