TATA and Airbus partner, will build final assembly line of private helicopter

Taking a step forward in the ‘Make in India’ initiative, Airbus Helicopters has entered into a partnership with Tata Group to set up a Final Assembly Line (FAL) for helicopters in the country.

This is a historic step, which is contributing to the development of the country by associating with the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ program of the Government of India. Let us tell you that this is the first example of the private sector playing a leading role in setting up a helicopter manufacturing facility in India.

Airbus announced

Airbus Helicopters has announced on its official platform that it is partnering with Tata Group to set up Final Assembly Line (FAL) for helicopters in the country.
FAL will produce Airbus’ best-selling H125 helicopter from its civil range for India and export to some neighboring countries.
FAL will be the first example of the private sector setting up a helicopter manufacturing facility in India, which will provide a major boost to the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ program of the Government of India.
Under this partnership, Tata Group subsidiary Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) will set up the facility with Airbus Helicopters.
The announcement comes on the heels of French President Emmanuel Macron’s two-day visit as the chief guest at the Republic Day celebrations on January 26.

Delivery will start in 2026

The FAL in India will undertake major component assembly, avionics and mission systems, installation of electrical harnesses, hydraulic circuits, flight controls, fuel systems and integration of engines.
It will also test, qualify and deliver the H125 to customers in India and the region.
The FAL will take 24 months to install and deliveries of the first ‘Made in India’ H125 are expected to begin in 2026. The location of the FAL will be decided jointly by Airbus and the Tata Group.
The H125 is the only helicopter to land on Mount Everest, performing well even in very high altitude, extreme environments.
The proposed helicopter manufacturing facility will be the second FAL to be set up by Airbus in India, leveraging TASL’s capabilities in aerospace and defence. Both the companies are manufacturing the C295 military transport aircraft FAL in Vadodara, Gujarat.
This is part of Airbus’ efforts to develop a holistic aerospace ecosystem in India.
