New Delhi: The name of Najafgarh in Delhi can be changed. BJP MLA from Najafgarh Neelam Pehalwan on Thursday proposed in the Delhi Assembly to change the name of her constituency Najafgarh to Nahargarh. She claimed that Mughal ruler Aurangzeb had changed the name of Nahargarh to Najafgarh and demanded that its original name be restored.
Neelam Pehalwan said in the House that Raja Nahar Singh fought in the 1857 rebellion and included the Najafgarh area in the area of Delhi. We also tried several times to change the name along with the then MP Pravesh Verma. Even after many paperwork, it has not been possible yet. Therefore, we demand from the House that the name of Najafgarh be changed to ‘Nahargarh’.

Outside the House, MLA Neelam Pehalwan said that today I raised the issue of Najafgarh area in the Assembly that the name of Najafgarh area should be changed from Najafgarh to ‘Nahargarh’. I have reached this position as the hope of Najafgarh area, so my priority is to raise the voice of the people there… Today I got the first opportunity, so I raised the issue of naming Najafgarh after our king Nahar Singh in the House.
Kailash Gehlot supported the name change
On the other hand, BJP MLA Kailash Gehlot said on the demand to change the name of Najafgarh area to ‘Nahargarh’, “If the people of a place who are residents there express the desire that the name of that place should be changed, then according to me the government, MLAs, ministers, all are working for the public and they should work towards this. Let us tell you that Neelam Pehalwan has been elected MLA from Najafgarh. Kailash Gehlot has also been an MLA from Najafgarh.
MLA Anil Sharma demanded to change the name of this village
After Neelam’s proposal, BJP MLA from RK Puram Anil Sharma also demanded to change the name of a village in his constituency. He said that Mohammadpur should be renamed as Madhavpuram and announced that he will put this proposal in the Delhi Assembly.
Demand to change the name of Mustafabad too
