Washington: US President Donald Trump has said that he trusts Vladimir Putin to abide by any ceasefire in Ukraine. He said that Putin will keep his promise if an agreement is reached to end Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine. Trump said that he can trust Putin to talk about the war in Ukraine. Trump made this comment while talking to reporters at the start of the meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Starmer extended an invitation to Trump for a state visit on behalf of King Charles, which the US President has accepted.

When asked about Putin, Trump, sitting with Starmer in the Oval Office, told reporters, “I think he will keep his word. I have talked to him, I have known him for a long time, I don’t think he will break his word.” Trump said that Britain “can take care of itself, but if they need help, I will always be with Britain.”

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said he wanted to work together to ensure the peace deal was permanent, one that no one would violate. Both Britain and France have offered to deploy peacekeeping forces to Ukraine, but want US guarantees of support, including aerial and satellite surveillance and potentially air power.
