The toxic waste that came to Pithampur from Bhopal’s Union Carbide factory will be burnt from 10 am today. After the High Court’s order of 18 February, preparations for the trial run of disposal of chemical waste kept in Pithampur’s Ramki factory from 27th were started from yesterday itself. 12 containers were sent from Bhopal to Pithampur on 1 January. Various types of waste are present in them. These include naphthol, sevin, reactor residue, pesticide residue, semi-processed residue and excavated soil from there.
Waste will be burnt in three times
Out of the containers present here, the waste kept in five containers will be taken to the storage shed today, where 10 tonnes from all the five containers will be mixed in proper proportion. After this, it will be fed into the incinerator. Before feeding it, it will be run in black for 12 hours to bring it to the temperature, that is, waste will not be put into it. For the safety of the employees, they have been given masks, goggles and hand gloves. It will take about 72 hours to burn 10 tons of waste. The court has asked for three trials. The first trial will be of 10 tons, under which work is being done. The second trial of 10 tons will be on the 4th and the third trial of 10 tons will be on the 10th. For this, three feed rates have been decided. 135 kg per hour, second 180 kg per hour and third 270 kg per hour, the status report of all three will be sent to the court.
10 tons of waste will be burnt at a temperature of 800-900
MP Pollution Control Board Indore’s Regional Officer Srinivas Dwivedi said that the Hon’ble High Court had given instructions that the disposal of the Union Carbide waste kept there should be started from the 18th. The process of its trial has been started, under which the waste that was in the containers that had come. 5 containers have been opened, they will be stored in the storage shed. 10 tonnes from all the five containers will be mixed in proper proportion and fed into the incinerator. When the temperature reaches 850, then it will be fed. During the process in the incinerator, the temperature in the primary chamber should be between 850 plus minus 50 i.e. 800 to 900. The temperature decreases when waste is added initially, which will have to be taken to 850. Work will start at 10 am.
The process of burning garbage will continue for three days
In the first trial, garbage will be burnt for three days. During this time, soil will come out of it. After this, the gas will go further to the cleaning section which is the secondary section. The temperature there is 1100 to 1200 degrees centigrade. Diesel is also added there. After burning there, there is blue gas, which will move forward, which has a cleaning process, under which it will go to the multi cyclone where the big particles will go down. The gas will move forward. There is a spray dryer before the multi cyclone, which will clean the gas. It will go to the dry scrubber, then the wet filter, then the wet scrubber and then to the chimney. This entire process will have to be done.
Second and third trial on 4th and 10th March
In this, solid waste ash will come out from the primary, second solid waste will come out from the multi cyclone, third will come out from the dry scrubber, fourth solid particles will come out from the wet filter, lastly water will come out in the wet scrubber. The solid particles that will come out will be stabilized and put in a separate cell made in the landfill and it will be disposed of. The court has asked for three trials. The first trial will be of 10 tonnes which is going on from 27th, the second trial of 10 tonnes will be on 4th and the third trial of 10 tonnes will be on 10th. The last trial was done on 90 tonnes.
