The Congress leadership held a meeting with its senior leaders of Assam on Thursday, in which the strategy for the assembly elections to be held next year was discussed in detail. The meeting was attended by party president Mallikarjun Kharge and former president Rahul Gandhi along with party’s state in-charge Jitendra Singh, State Congress Committee President Bhupen Bora, Lok Sabha member Gaurav Gogoi and many other leaders of the state. In the meeting, a resolution was taken to fight the ruling BJP unitedly.
Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi said after the meeting that the people of Assam have decided to embrace the politics of love and progress of the Congress, rejecting the politics of hatred. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also spoke in the meeting, in which he praised the efforts of the leaders of Assam to make the party’s upcoming election campaign stronger.
“The Chief Minister is selling the state”
Assam Congress state in-charge Jitendra Singh told reporters, “Congress leaders from every region of Assam were present in this meeting today. In this meeting, the strategy for the upcoming Assam assembly elections was discussed.” He claimed, “It was also raised in the meeting that the Chief Minister of Assam is selling the state, doing mafiagiri and running a ‘syndicate’, due to which the people of Assam are suffering a lot.” According to Singh, it was also decided in the meeting that Congress President Kharge, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi will visit Assam and their rallies will be held there. He claimed that the BJP and its Chief Minister are nervous in Assam, while the Congress is working very strongly and fighting for the people of Assam.
“Will overthrow the BJP government”
Bhupen Bora said, “We have resolved that we all will unite and overthrow the BJP government from Assam in the upcoming elections.” He claimed, “Himanta Biswa Sarma is the most corrupt Chief Minister of the country and we have placed all the evidence related to the corruption of the Chief Minister before the top leadership.” Bora said, “We and all our leaders will go among the people and place these evidences of corruption before them.”

Attack and counter-attack begins before elections
The main opposition party in Assam, Congress, has opened a front against the BJP government and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on the issue of alleged corruption. On the other hand, Sarma and BJP had recently accused the wife of Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi of having links with Pakistan and its intelligence agency ‘ISI’. Gogoi dismissed this allegation as “ridiculous”.
