Bhopal: The holy month of Ramadan has begun and a flood of hate messages has begun on social media, in which Muslims are being appealed to buy goods only from Muslim shopkeepers during Ramadan. People of the Muslim community of Bhopal, a city of Ganga-Jamuna culture, say that this is a wrong tradition, but the viral message has definitely heated up the politics of the state.
Through messages on mobile and posts on Twitter, appeals are being made to buy goods from Muslims. It is being said, “I only request Muslim brothers and sisters to buy Iftar items only and only from their Muslim brothers. Do not buy Iftar items from any Hindu shop or cart even by mistake, these people can feed you anything out of hatred. Shop for Ramadan Iftar only from your own people, treat your own people like your own.” Campaign going on on social media
Such messages and tweets advising Muslims to buy only from Muslims are dominating social media in both the country and the world. A campaign is being run by some people on social media in which people are being appealed to buy goods only from Muslim shopkeepers. When India TV met some such people in Bhopal, they showed such messages coming on their mobile but also said that they will not pay attention to such messages and will not let the intentions of those who are trying to divide the society by sending such messages succeed.
What are people writing on social media?
Apart from messages on mobile, similar things are being written on many social media accounts. An X user named Ibrar Ahmed has written on his handle that ‘Assalamualaikum, may we all be fortunate, Ramadan Mubarak. The month has come. Ramadan Mubarak to my friend. Shop carefully. Especially buy from those people who can celebrate their Ramadan and Eid happily with your shopping. May Allah Rabbul Izzat forgive our sins with the blessings of Ramadan. Amen.’
Tanveer has written on his handle, “Ramadan Mubarak to all the Muslim brothers and sisters of Hindu. I just want to request all the crores of Muslim brothers and sisters to buy Iftar items only from their Muslim brothers. Do not buy Iftar items from any Hindu shop or cart even by mistake, these people can feed you anything out of hatred.”
Ali Sohrab wrote, “Forget about resignation, they do not wash their hands even after being impure…. So, buy Ramadan Iftar from your own people only, celebrate your festival with your own people.”
‘If Hindu society boycotts, it will be difficult’
At the same time, politics has also started on this issue. BJP MLA and former Protem Speaker Rameshwar Sharma said that as Muslims are being appealed to buy items from Muslims. If Hindu society boycotts you, it will be difficult for you.
Congress expressed concern
Let us tell you that last year, a similar appeal was made to Hindus on Diwali and then, adding the hashtags ‘Apna Tyohaar, Apno Ke Saath’, the appeal was made to do Diwali shopping only from Hindu shopkeepers. Now, Congress has expressed concern over a similar appeal being made on Ramzan. While talking to India TV, MP Congress Media Department President Mukesh Nayak said that during the last 10 years, the atmosphere in the country has been spoiled so much that people are talking about shopping from their own religions.
Anyway, festivals are celebrated with brotherhood but the attempt to provoke people by sending such messages should be curbed.
