Delhi: Delhi’s Rohini Court has sentenced the accused to life imprisonment in a case of kidnapping and rape. The court advocated strict punishment for those who violate the POCSO Act. In 2021, a case of kidnapping and rape of a minor came to light. The court of Additional Sessions Judge Sushil Bala Dagar was hearing the case. The court convicted the 31-year-old man of rape, kidnapping and intimidation under Section 6 of the POCSO Act.
While pronouncing the verdict, the court remarked that no amount can reduce the pain of the victim. However, efforts can be made to bring the life of the rape victim back on track. The court ordered a compensation of Rs 10.5 lakh to help in the rehabilitation of the rape victim. Advocate Yogita Kaushik Dahiya appeared on behalf of Delhi Police. He argued that the accused does not deserve any leniency. He kidnapped the girl on 26 July 2021 by luring her with food and drinks.
Court’s strict comment in kidnapping and rape case
The lawyer said that the accused brutally raped the minor at knife point. According to Delhi Police, the Uttar Pradesh court had also convicted the man in the rape case. Rohini Court commented that a clear message should be sent to the society that the person violating POCSO will be held accountable for the act. The accused had a perverted urge for sexual desires.
‘Wounds caused by sexual abuse never heal’
The court said that it is the responsibility of the society to protect children from sexual abuse. The mental wounds caused by sexual abuse never heal. Keeping in view the gravity of the case, the age of the victim and the accused, the involvement of the accused in the crime and socio-economic aspects, a verdict of life imprisonment is given under Section 6 of the POCSO Act. Apart from this, the sentence of seven years of rigorous imprisonment for kidnapping and threatening will also run simultaneously.
