Sushil Kumar Released From Tihar Jail: Olympic medalist wrestler Sushil Kumar has come out of Tihar Jail. Delhi High Court had granted regular bail to Sushil Kumar in junior wrestler Sagar Dhankhar murder case. Two days ago on Tuesday, March 4, wrestler Sushil Kumar got bail from the High Court and came out on Thursday, March 6.

Justice Sanjeev Narula had granted relief to wrestler Sushil Kumar and directed him to furnish a personal bond of Rs 50,000 and two sureties of the same amount. This case is related to the murder of former junior national wrestling champion Sagar Dhankhar at Chhatrasal Stadium in the national capital.

Charge of murderous attack on Dhankhar in property dispute

Sushil Kumar and others are accused of murderous attack on Dhankhar in May 2021 over an alleged property dispute. Two friends of Dhankhar were also injured in this attack. According to the post-mortem report, Dhankhar was injured when he was hit on the head with something. Advocates RS Malik and Sumit Shaukeen, appearing for Sushil Kumar, had said that Kumar has been in jail for the last three and a half years and the prosecution has cited 200 witnesses, while only 31 have testified so far.

Wrestler Sushil Kumar was arrested in May 2021

While the prosecution opposed this petition, advocate Malik argued that the trial would take a long time to complete and Kumar should be given relief on the ground of delay. Wrestler Sushil Kumar was arrested in May 2021 and was granted interim bail for a week for knee surgery.

Let us tell you that in October 2022, the trial court framed charges against Kumar under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for crimes including murder, criminal conspiracy, intimidation and assault with a deadly weapon, besides the Arms Act. The trial court had said that after Dhankhar was kidnapped and brought to the stadium, several accused had attacked him badly with baseball and hockey sticks.
