Amid a language row between Tamil Nadu’s ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Central government, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday asked Chief Minister MK Stalin to provide engineering and medical education in Tamil in the state and also praised the Tamil language. Speaking on the language issue, especially Stalin’s opposition to it alleging “imposition” of Hindi, Shah said the Narendra Modi-led government has brought about changes and has now ensured that Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) candidates can take exams in their respective regional languages.

What did Amit Shah say on the 56th Foundation Day of CISF

Addressing the program organized on the 56th Foundation Day of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at RTC Thakolam in Ranipet, about 70 km from Chennai, the Home Minister said, “The government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ensured that the answer sheet in the examination can also be written in Tamil.” He said, “I appeal to the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu to start engineering and medical education in Tamil in the state for the benefit of the students.” Shah’s remarks targeting the Chief Minister came amid the ongoing controversy over the language in the state. The ruling DMK is claiming to implement Hindi through the National Education Policy (NEP 2020), although the Center has denied it.

Amit Shah said this on the language dispute
The state government has said that it will follow only the two-language policy, i.e. Tamil and English. He praised Tamil Nadu, saying that the culture of the state has played an important role in strengthening the cultural stream of India. Addressing the program, Shah said, “Whether it is administrative reform, achieving spiritual heights, education or unity and integrity of the nation, Tamil Nadu has strengthened Indian culture in every field.” The program featured a ‘march past’ of paramilitary troops, yoga demonstrations and commando operations.

Tamil language is India’s priceless gem: Amit Shah

Shah said that Tamil language, culture and traditions are priceless gems of India’s heritage, which the whole country proudly adopts today. He said that apart from this, it is also a matter of pride that the CISF Thakolam Training Center, Rajaditya Chozhan RTC is named in honor of the great warrior of the Chola dynasty and brave Tamil king Aditya Chola. The Home Minister said that King Aditya Chola created the tales of bravery and sacrifice on this land of Tamil Nadu and attained martyrdom, which further strengthened the glorious traditions of the Chola Empire. Regarding CISF, he said that the contribution of the paramilitary force is very important in fulfilling Prime Minister Modi’s resolve to make India the third largest economy and a developed nation by 2047.
