In a major relief to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, the Karnataka High Court on Friday quashed the ED summons issued to his wife BM Parvathy and Urban Development Minister Byrathi Suresh in the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) land allotment case. The ED had summoned Parvathy to appear before its Bengaluru office on January 28 at 11 am.
Interim stay on earlier summons
This was the second such notice issued to her, the first being on January 3, directing her to appear before it on January 9. However, she had sought extension of time citing her age and need for additional time to gather relevant documents. On January 27, the court had put an interim stay on the summons.
On February 5, the Karnataka High Court had extended the stay on the ED summons till February 20, giving relief to both Parvathy and Suresh. The case pertains to alleged irregularities in land allotment by MUDA, in which the ED is probing possible violations of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
Congress and CM denied the allegations
Last year, Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot allowed an inquiry against the Karnataka CM on complaints of corruption in the allotment of 14 residential sites in Mysuru. Siddaramaiah and the Congress party denied the allegations.
Karnataka Lokayukta gave clean chit to Siddaramaiah
The Karnataka Lokayukta police submitted an 11,000-page final report to the court in the MUDA plot allotment case in February. The development came a day after the clean chit given by the Lokayukta police to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was officially made public. Siddaramaiah, his wife, brother-in-law B M Mallikarjuna Swamy, Devaraju and others were named in the FIR filed by the Mysore-based Lokayukta police establishment on September 27.
