India has rescued and evacuated 283 of its citizens from Myanmar. These Indians were forced to commit cyber crime by luring them with lucrative jobs. The Indian Foreign Ministry has informed that the Indian embassies in Myanmar and Thailand have evacuated the Indian citizens in coordination with the local authorities.

Took help of Air Force aircraft

On Monday, the safe return of Indian citizens was ensured through an Indian Air Force aircraft from Mae Sot in Thailand. The Ministry of External Affairs said that- “These people were later forced to engage in cyber crime and other fraudulent activities in scam centers operating in areas along the Myanmar-Thailand border.”

What did the Ministry of External Affairs say?

The Ministry of External Affairs said in its statement- “The Government of India is continuously making efforts for the release and return of Indian citizens sent to various South-East Asian countries including Myanmar with fake job offers. The Indian embassies in Myanmar and Thailand, in coordination with the local authorities, have ensured the return of 283 Indian citizens by an Indian Air Force aircraft from Mae Sot in Thailand today.”

Citizens should check the employers – Ministry
The Ministry of External Affairs has advised Indian citizens to verify the credentials of foreign employers through missions abroad and check the past records of recruitment agents and companies before accepting job offers. Earlier in December, the Indian Embassy had announced the release of six Indian citizens trapped in a job scam case in Myawaddy, Myanmar.
