Patna: The work of land survey in Bihar has now been extended for five months. This information has been given by the Revenue and Land Reforms Minister himself. The Bihar government has once again extended its deadline from July 2026 to December 2026 to complete the existing land survey to minimize the inconvenience caused to the people. Bihar Revenue and Land Reforms Minister Sanjay Saraogi made this announcement on Wednesday during a discussion on his department’s budget proposals of Rs 1955.98 crore for 2025-26. The department’s budget for the next financial year was passed by the House by voice vote amid the walkout of opposition members.

Decision to extend five months
The minister said, “The department has decided to extend the deadline of July 2026 by five months to complete the land survey work across the state. Now this work will be completed by December 2026. This decision has been taken to ensure that people do not face any inconvenience and transparency is also maintained in this work.

Digital land records will be made available
The minister clarified that the purpose of this entire process is to provide digital land records to the entitled people, so that disputes can be ended forever. He said that the government also needs land for the landless and for many infrastructure projects. The minister said that the deadline for landholders to upload self-declaration documents related to the land property owned by them is March 31, 2025.

He said, “There were some technical glitches in the server. The department will decide whether the deadline of March 31, 2025 for uploading self-declaration documents should also be extended or not.” The opposition walked out of the House over the alleged delay in distribution of land to landless people by the Bihar government. Land survey has been on the agenda of the Nitish Kumar government for a long time, as land disputes have emerged as the biggest challenge to law and order in the state.
