The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has started preparing for the West Bengal Assembly elections to be held in 2026 and is working fast to remove the names of fake voters from the state’s voter list. Taking forward the party’s agenda, TMC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee chaired a virtual meeting of party leaders with the aim of improving the voter list. In this meeting, the task of identifying fake voters was entrusted. Along with this, many such decisions were told that will help the party leadership to do this work well.
Abhishek Banerjee said that the party will appoint voter list observers and separate committees will be formed at the district, block, city, panchayat, ward and booth level. Also, work will be done on door-to-door document verification.
A few days ago, a delegation of Trinamool Congress met the State Election Commission, in which they expressed concern about fake voters. He had said that due to them the election results may be affected. He had also demanded that a unique identity be created for valid voters in the state, so that voting cannot be repeated.
Committees will be formed in the coming days
Abhishek Banerjee said that it was also decided that the district committee would be formed in the next five days and the block committee in the next two weeks for voter inspection. The verification process will start from April 16. A 10-minute video was also shown during the virtual meet to train the leaders and it was said that training camps would be organized in every assembly constituency so that the leaders present on the spot can verify it.
Abhishek Banerjee emphasized on the constituencies and areas where the party did not perform well in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. In Kolkata, the TMC general secretary specifically discussed Jorasanko and Chowringhee constituencies. The party did not perform well in these seats in 2024. He also said that soon the district and block presidents would be changed and their appointments would be based only on performance.
