Karnataka minister Sharan Prakash Patil on Sunday said that if children abandon their elderly parents in hospitals, their property transfer and wills should be cancelled. The minister said that this problem arises when elderly people transfer their property in the name of children, and then the children leave them in hospitals and go away.
Children leave their parents in government hospitals
According to officials, a serious and inhumane incident has come to light in which many elderly parents are abandoned by their children in government medical college hospitals. This often happens when elderly people transfer their property in the name of children.
More than 150 cases reported
According to a statement from the minister’s office, “More than 150 cases of abandonment of elderly people have been reported in Belgaum Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS) alone, while more than 100 such cases have been seen in other medical institutions in the state.”
Minister expressed deep concern
In a recent review meeting, the BIMS director raised this issue before Medical Education and Skill Development Minister Sharan Prakash Patil. The minister expressed deep concern over this and said that it should be taken seriously.
The will should be cancelled
He directed Medical Education Director Dr. B.L. Sujata Rathod to inform the heads of all hospitals and medical institutions about this and file complaints with the Assistant Commissioners (Revenue Sub-Division) to take action against the children. He said that the elderly parents who have left their property or will in the name of their children and then left them in the hospitals, those properties and wills should be cancelled.
