Supreme Court sends notice to Home Ministry and Finance Ministry on petition seeking probe into allegations of Arunachal Pradesh CM giving government contracts to companies of relatives, Supreme Court seeks response from Centre

Arunachal CM Pema Khandu: The Supreme Court has directed the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and the Ministry of Finance to file a reply on the petition filed against Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu.

The petition alleges that the Chief Minister gave government contracts to the companies of his relatives, and an SIT inquiry has been demanded in this matter.

Supreme Court’s strictness and reply sought from the Center

During the hearing on the petition, the Supreme Court said that serious consideration is required on this issue. Arunachal Pradesh government ordered to file an affidavit, in which information about all the contracts has to be given. The central government has also been directed to file a reply in five weeks. At the same time, the CAG was asked to submit the final report based on the instructions issued on March 20.

Arguments in defense of the Chief Minister
The lawyer appearing on behalf of Chief Minister Pema Khandu said that this petition is politically motivated and its purpose is to misuse power. He also said that the High Court has already rejected such petitions.

Supreme Court sought information of those who got the contracts
The court ordered the Arunachal Pradesh government to submit full information of the companies and individuals who were given government contracts. Home and Finance Ministries were ordered to file detailed affidavits. The petitioner was given three weeks to respond. The next hearing of the case will be held in the week of July 21.

Let us tell you that the court has given five weeks to submit the affidavit, as well as gave three weeks separately to the petitioner to respond. The case will be heard again in the week starting from July 21.
