Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new Pamban Rail Bridge in Rameswaram on Sunday, April 6, 2025. After this, PM Narendra Modi, while addressing a rally, targeted Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and his party DMK for fueling the language dispute.
Targeting MK Stalin, PM Modi said, “Tamil Nadu ministers talk proudly about the Tamil language, but their letters written to me and their signatures are in English only.” The PM asked the question, “Why does he not use the Tamil language? Where does their pride for Tamil go?”
‘Issue medical courses in Tamil language’
PM Modi appealed to the Tamil Nadu government and said, “There are more than 1400 Jan Aushadhi Kendras in Tamil Nadu. Medicines are available here at 80 percent discount. This also helped the people of Tamil Nadu save Rs 7 thousand crores. The youth of the country will not be forced to go abroad to become doctors. For this, Tamil Nadu has got 11 medical colleges in the last years. Now even the poorest of the poor sons and daughters can become doctors. I want to tell the Tamil Nadu government to issue medical courses in Tamil language, so that the sons and daughters of poor families who do not know English can also become doctors.”
He said that in the last 10 years, India has doubled the size of its economy. A big reason for such fast growth is also our excellent modern infrastructure. In the last 10 years, we have increased the budget of rail, road, airport, water, port, electricity, gas pipeline, such infrastructure by about 6 times.
‘Tamil Nadu’s rail budget is more than 6 thousand crores’
PM Modi further said that I believe that the overall development of the country will improve when the potential of Tamil Nadu is realized. Before 2014, only Rs 900 crore was received every year for rail projects. This year Tamil Nadu’s rail budget is more than Rs 6,000 crore and the Government of India is also modernizing 77 railway stations here. This includes the railway station of Rameswaram. Tamil Nadu has a very big role in the journey of developed India. I believe, the more Tamil Nadu’s potential increases, the faster India’s growth will be.
PM Modi mentioned the help being provided to the state government. He said, in the last decade, three times more money has been given by the central government for the development of Tamil Nadu than in 2014. Tamil Nadu’s infrastructure is the top priority of the government. The state’s rail budget has increased more than seven times in the last decade. Despite this significant increase, some people continue to complain without any justification. Before 2014, only Rs 900 crore was allocated every year. However, this year Tamil Nadu’s railway budget has increased to more than Rs 6000 crore. Apart from this, the Government of India is modernizing 77 railway stations, including the station at Rameswaram.
