The Election Commission rejected the allegations of Rahul Gandhi and Congress in which it was alleged that there were massive irregularities in the voter list in the Maharashtra elections.

New Delhi: The Election Commission has rejected the opposition’s allegation of tampering with the voter list. Sources associated with the Election Commission said that only 89 appeals were made for correction in the voter list. The opposition’s allegation is absolutely wrong. The allegations made by the opposition were without any facts.

The Election Commission gave this argument

The Election Commission says that names are added and removed from the voter list before the elections. If a person has died or does not live in the concerned place or has changed his constituency, then the name of such people is removed from the list. The Commission adds new eligible voters to the list in a fair and transparent manner. Duplicate and dead voters are removed from the list.

89 appeals were registered in Maharashtra

According to sources, only 89 appeals were registered in Maharashtra. While there were 13,857,359 booth level agents (BLAs) in the country. Only 89 appeals were made for changes in the voter list. Sources said that if someone says that the voter list on the basis of which voting has taken place is not correct then they have not read the election law proposed by the government in 1961 and passed by Parliament in 1961.

Elections are due in Bihar and other states in the next few months, so the opposition parties are likely to raise this issue further. But the Election Commission, which has also said earlier that duplication of EPIC numbers does not mean “duplicate/fake voters”, stands by its stand and has released data to prove its point.

Rahul Gandhi had made serious allegations

Let us tell you that during the winter session of Parliament, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi had appealed for a detailed discussion on the voter list. Congress and its allies had alleged discrepancies in the voter list in the Maharashtra assembly elections. Rahul Gandhi had alleged that about 30 lakh voters have been added to the voter list of Maharashtra from 2019 to 2024.
