Kerala is going to be the first state in the country to use indigenous AK-203 rifle

Kerala is going to be the first state in the country whose police is going to use the indigenous AK-203 rifle being prepared with the help of Russia. For this, Kerala Police has issued a tender for 250 indigenous AK-203 rifles. The total cost of these rifles is 225 lakhs. Till now, only the Indian Army uses these rifles.

In the tender issued by the Kerala Police Headquarters on Wednesday, April 16, the demand for AK-203 rifles has been clearly made. In India, this rifle is jointly manufactured by the government undertaking Advanced Weapon and Equipment India Limited (formerly Ordnance Factory Board i.e. OFAB) and Russia’s Rosoboronexport (and Kalashnikov) company. In such a situation, soon this special rifle can be seen in the hands of Kerala Police personnel.

PM Modi and Putin jointly inaugurated

In the year 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin inaugurated a joint plant in Korwa (Amethi), Uttar Pradesh for the manufacture of AK-203 assault rifles under Make in India. In the year 2021, India and Russia signed a deal of Rs 5,000 crore for the manufacture of more than seven and a half lakh (7.50 lakh) AK-203 rifles at the Korba plant.

AK-203 rifles are being supplied to the Indian Army

First due to the Kovid epidemic, the Ukraine war and then the problems in transactions, the production of rifles in the plant was getting delayed, but from the year 2024, the production of rifles has started in the plant and the supply to the Indian Army has also started.

The 7.62 x 39 mm caliber AK-203 rifle can fire 700 rounds in a minute. Its range is 500-800 meters and with a weight of 3.8 kg, this rifle is considered light. Being light but lethal, it is easy for soldiers to operate this rifle.
