Shivmoga: Taking a big action in the case of removing the sacred thread and Raksha Sutra (Kalava) from the students during the CET examination in Shivamoga district of Karnataka, an FIR has been registered against the examination officials. This incident came to light during the CET examination at Adichunchanagiri School in Sharavatinagar of Shivamoga district. Students appearing for the Karnataka Common Entrance Test (CET) were allegedly asked to remove their sacred thread and Raksha Sutra (Kalava).
Case registered under sections of BNS
According to the police, an FIR has been registered under Section 3(5) along with Section 115(2), 299, 351(1) and 352 of the BNS, 2023 on the basis of a complaint lodged by a person named Nataraja Bhagwat. The police have started investigating the matter to find out under what circumstances the students were allegedly instructed to remove religious symbols.
Karnataka Higher Education Minister Dr MC Sudhakar’s reaction has also come to the fore on this incident. He called it “very unfortunate” and confirmed that such complaints have also been received from an examination center in Bidar. However, he clarified that the examination process went smoothly at most other centers across the state.
Such an incident happened in Bidar too
Speaking to ANI, he said, “This incident is very unfortunate. It happened not only in Shivamogga but also in Bidar. The process went smoothly at all places except two centers. Those responsible for checking or searching any gadgets or even whatever protocol was followed were never instructed to check or remove such items.” He said, “There was no mention of removing these things during the exam. We respect all religions, their faith and their actions. We cannot accept this and we are going to take action.
Actually, three students who came to take the CET exam were stopped because they were wearing sacred thread and Raksha Sutra (Kalava) in their hands. The guard present at the gate made two boys remove the sacred thread and Raksha Sutra (Kalava), while one student was adamant on not removing the sacred thread. Due to which he was stopped at the gate for 15 minutes. After this, the Raksha Sutra tied on his hands was removed, but he was allowed to take the exam with the sacred thread.
He was made to sit outside the gate for 15 minutes
The uncle of the victim student Abhigyan said, ‘My nephew had gone to Adi Chunchungiri PU College for CET. There the guard asked him to remove the sacred thread worn inside the T-shirt and the Kalava worn in his hands. The nephew clearly refused to do so. The nephew said that He said that even if he does not give the exam, he will not remove the sacred thread. After this, he was made to sit outside for 15 minutes.’ The victim’s uncle told that later he was allowed to give the exam with the sacred thread but the sacred thread was removed from his hand and thrown in the dustbin.
After getting information about this incident, people got angry. People of the Brahmin organization reached the gate of the institute and started questioning the guard. On getting the information, the police also reached there and somehow the protesting people were pacified and sent away from there.
