New Delhi: Delhi Traffic Police today (April 21) organised a felicitation ceremony at the Adarsh Auditorium of Delhi Police Headquarters to felicitate traffic Praharis. On the occasion, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena graced the occasion as the chief guest and gave away medals and cash prizes worth Rs 6 lakh to the traffic Prahari volunteers who had earned the highest number of reward points through the Prahari mobile application between September 2024 and February 2025.
DCP Traffic Shashank Jaiswal also felicitated
Among the 5 DTP officers who received the trophy was DCP Traffic Shashank Jaiswal who saved the life of a road accident victim by giving timely CPR. Apart from this, HC Satish Kumari was also felicitated who helped a road accident victim and provided him medical aid.
Others included Traffic Inspector Abhishek Kumar, Sub-Inspector Vinita Kaushik and HC Sonam from Road Safety Cell who were felicitated for their exemplary work while on duty. Several senior officials including IPS officers Sanjay Arora, Vivek Gogia, K Jagdishan and Ajay Chaudhary were present at the event.
The Lt Governor felicitated 11 traffic sentinel volunteers including SC Kakkar who received recognition every month from September 2024 to February 2025. Other winners included Mohit Sharma, Amanpreet Singh, Sunita Singh Tomar, Mayur Kumar, Shubham Gupta, Sandeep Kumar, Shahbaz, Pawan, Rajesh Sikka and Bharat Singh Tomar. The recognised volunteers were also awarded medals along with prize money.
What is the aim of Traffic Prahari Yojana?
The aim of the Traffic Prahari Yojana is to promote citizen participation in traffic enforcement. It was originally launched in 2015 as Traffic Prahari Yojana and was revamped on September 1, 2024. Citizens can download the Prahari mobile application available on both Google Play Store and Apple Store and help the traffic police by reporting traffic violations. To make the scheme attractive, the Hon’ble LG approved and announced a monthly reward system under which the top four contributors get Rs 50,000, Rs 25,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively.

In his welcome address, Special Commissioner of Police/Traffic Ajay Chaudhary said that the Traffic Prahari app has been downloaded by more than 2 lakh users and has facilitated reporting of more than 6 lakh traffic violations. A street play was also presented by Rahul Khanna Group at the event which highlighted common violations and digital challan process.
