President Draupadi Murmu has reached Vatican to attend the funeral of Catholic Christian religious leader Pope Francis. After reaching there, she paid homage to the Pope at St. Peter’s Basilica. Minority Minister Kiren Rijiju, Minister of State George Kurien and Deputy Speaker of Goa Assembly Joshua D’Souza were also present with the President.
Giving information about the President’s visit, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared pictures and wrote on Instagram, President Draupadi Murmu paid homage to His Holiness Pope Francis at St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City.
Along with President Murmu, Minister Kiren Rijiju and Minister of State George Kurien also reached to pay tribute. President Murmu had reached Rome on Friday itself and will attend the funeral of Pope Francis to be held on Saturday.

Pope’s funeral will be held today
After the tribute meeting, Pope Francis’ coffin was sealed during the ceremony presided over by Cardinal Kevin Farrell. His face was covered by his long-time ceremony director, Archbishop Diego Ravelli. During this, Cardinal Kevin Farrell sprinkled holy water on the body. The Pope’s funeral will be held today i.e. on 26 April. Leaders and common people from all over the world will gather at the funeral.

US President Trump and his wife Melania, French President Macron, German President Frank and outgoing Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Russian Culture Minister Olga Lyubimova, and Ukrainian President Zelensky and his wife Olena Zelenska are among the big leaders who will be present during the Pope’s funeral ceremony. The Pope was ill for a long time. Francis was recently admitted to the hospital due to pneumonia and was discharged from there. He died about a month later.
