On Monday (January 29, 2024), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav was interrogated for 10 hours by the investigating agency Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the Land for Job scam case. There are allegations against Lalu Yadav that while he was the Railway Minister, he had given jobs to many people in exchange for land. This land was purchased at a price much lower than the market rate. ED is interrogating Lalu Yadav in this case.
In 10 hours of interrogation, ED asked more than 70 questions from Lalu Yadav. Lalu Yadav answered these questions in yes and no and he also asked for one to one and a half minutes’ time to answer many questions. Most of the questions are about land and flats, where the land was obtained from and how it was obtained. Questions related to the property of New Friends Colony, Delhi were also asked. There is a company named M/s AK Infosystem Private Limited, to which two people had sold land at a very cheap price. Those people got jobs. Many associates of Lalu Yadav including his wife, son and daughter are accused in the case of job in exchange for land. Lalu Yadav’s wife Rabri Devi, son Tejashwi Yadav, daughters Misa Bharti and Hema Yadav are also accused in this case. ED has made a total of 16 people accused. Bhola Yadav, close to Lalu Yadav, was also arrested in this case. According to the charge sheet of the Enforcement Directorate, Lalu Yadav’s family got land at seven places. The family is accused of money laundering worth about Rs 600 crore. It is alleged that land worth about Rs 4 crore was transferred to the name of family members for Rs 26 lakh.
Lalu Yadav was the Railway Minister in the UPA-1 government between 2004 and 2009. In 2022, CBI registered an FIR and then its investigation started. A search operation was also conducted last year as part of the investigation. Cash worth Rs 1 crore and valuables worth Rs 1.25 crore were also seized. Apart from this, immovable property worth Rs 2.03 crore was also temporarily confiscated in the month of July.
