Union Home Minister Amit Shah has launched a new e-Zero FIR initiative to catch criminals through the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center (I4C). It has been launched as a pilot project for Delhi. The new system will automatically convert cyber complaints lodged on NCRP or 1930 into FIRs. The new system will expedite investigations, which will lead to strict action against cyber criminals, and will soon be expanded across the country.
Amit Shah said in a post on social media platform X that launched as a pilot project for Delhi, this new system will automatically convert cyber financial crimes lodged on NCRP or helpline number 1930 into FIRs. Initially it will be for limits above Rs 10 lakh.
He said that the Modi government is strengthening the cyber security framework to create a cyber-safe India. The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center (I4C) of the Home Ministry has launched a new e-Zero FIR initiative to catch any criminal at an unprecedented speed.
What will be the benefits?
Zero FIR means that any person can lodge a complaint in any police station from any place in the country, initially it will be applicable for fraud above Rs 10 lakh. Complainants can convert Zero FIR into a regular FIR by going to the cyber crime police station within 3 days.
How will the whole system work?
This new system is a joint initiative of three main institutions Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center (I4C), Delhi Police’s e-FIR system, and CCTNS network of National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). Under this, when a complaint is received, it will be automatically sent to Delhi’s e-Crime police station and then it will be transferred to the local cyber police station. This entire process has been implemented under Section 173 (1) and 1 (ii) of the Indian Civil Security Code (Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita – BNSS).
