Bihar: A local court in Darbhanga district of Bihar sent Bharatiya Janata Party MLA from Alinagar Mishrilal Yadav and his associate to jail in judicial custody in a 2019 assault case, know the matter

Bihar: A local court in Bihar’s Darbhanga district on Thursday, May 22, sent Bharatiya Janata Party MLA from Alinagar Mishrilal Yadav and his aide to jail in judicial custody in a 2019 assault case. Assistant Public Prosecutor Renu Jha told reporters, “Additional District and Sessions Judge Suman Kumar Diwakar of Darbhanga’s MP-MLA court ordered the security personnel to take the MLA and his aide into custody while testifying in the court.”

In fact, BJP MLA Mishrilal Yadav had filed an appeal against the court’s decision. In the verdict, the MLA was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment and a fine of Rs 500. Judge-cum-Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Karuna Nidhi Prasad Arya of the special court in Darbhanga sentenced both the accused to three months’ imprisonment in February 2025 for intentionally injuring a person named Umesh Mishra on January 29, 2019.

What did Mishrilal Yadav say?

While being taken into custody, the BJP MLA told reporters, “I had filed an appeal against the February order of the MP/MLA court, in which the hearing of the case was fixed for Thursday. The court ordered me to be kept in custody for 24 hours.”

Umesh Mishra alleged in the complaint that the MLA and his associates attacked him outside his residence while he was taking a walk that morning (January 29). Umesh Mishra had lodged a complaint accusing Mishrilal Yadav and Suresh Yadav of snatching money as well as humiliating and beating him. The complaint said that Mishrilal Yadav and Suresh Yadav along with 20-25 people attacked him. In this case, the investigator submitted the charge sheet on 12 October 2019. The court took cognizance on 17 April 2020.
