Supriya Sule: NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule on Friday (May 23) announced that her party will launch a statewide campaign against dowry and for a violence-free Maharashtra. This campaign will be run from June 22. This step has been taken in the backdrop of the recent death of a 26-year-old woman in Pune.

Vaishnavi Hagwane, daughter-in-law of expelled NCP leader Rajendra Hagwane, allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in Bavdhan area of ​​Pimpri-Chinchwad in Pune district on May 16. Vaishnavi’s parents have made serious allegations of harassment of their daughter.

Pressure to bring 2 crores to buy land!

Vaishnavi’s parents alleged that they had given 51 tola (about 595 grams) of gold, silver and an SUV car to the Hagwane family at the time of marriage. Despite this, Vaishnavi was being harassed and pressured to bring two crore rupees to buy land.

Sharad Pawar’s daughter and NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule said in a statement, “Vaishnavi Hagwane’s death due to dowry is heart-wrenching. It is extremely infuriating that in a progressive state like Maharashtra, which showed the country the path of women empowerment, a daughter had to face such a painful situation. It pains the heart of every sensitive person.”

We have to take active steps for awareness – Sule

NCP (SP) MP Sule further said, “Just expressing anger and grief will not be enough, we have to take strong and active steps for awareness and change. From June 22, we are committed to start a campaign at the state level to end dowry deaths and domestic violence. For this, participation of all sections of society and all institutions will be necessary.
