Kathmandu: Supporters of monarchy in Nepal demonstrated vigorously today. During this, former Deputy Prime Minister and former Home Minister Kamal Thapa was arrested by the police. 6 other people were also arrested for trying to enter the restricted area in Kathmandu. The protesters are demanding to restore the monarchy and establish Nepal as a Hindu country.
Ban on sit-in demonstrations in Kathmandu
Meanwhile, the Nepal government announced a ban on protests in most parts of Kathmandu in view of the movement of monarchy supporters. A notification issued by the Kathmandu District Administration Office said that sit-in, hunger strike, protest, public function and demonstration will be banned at other places except three places in the Kathmandu Ring Road area – Koteshwar, Balkhu and Sifal Maidan.
For how many days will the order remain effective?
According to the notification, this ban will be effective from June 2 for the next two months. It said the ban was imposed to avoid possible disruption of business activities and transport services by protesters. However, the notification will not be effective on other events organised in coordination with the district administration office.
Indefinite protest programme
Monarchy supporters have been organising indefinite protest programmes since Thursday demanding restoration of the monarchy and the status of a Hindu country. The protesters carried photographs of former King Gyanendra Shah and raised slogans against the government led by Prime Minister KP Oli. The protesters said they would continue their protests until the monarchy was restored.
