Northeast Flood: Lakhs of people are facing problems due to floods in the Northeast. 36 people have lost their lives so far due to floods and landslides. At the same time, more than 5.5 lakh people have been affected in many states of the region. Assam has lost the highest number of 11 people due to floods and landslides in the Northeast region, followed by 10 in Arunachal Pradesh, six in Meghalaya, five in Mizoram, three in Sikkim and one person in Tripura.

More than 5.35 lakh people have been affected by floods in 22 districts of Assam, while the death of one person has increased the death toll to 11. According to the report, 15 rivers are in spate. A defense official said that three soldiers were killed and six soldiers are missing due to a landslide at a military camp in Chhaten, Sikkim.

Chief Minister visited flood affected areas

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma visited Lakhimpur district, one of the worst affected areas, and assured all possible help to the affected people. The Meteorological Department has said that average rainfall is expected at most places in Assam, while heavy rains are expected at some places. At the same time, extremely heavy rains are expected at some places.

The bulletin of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said that 5,15,039 people in 65 revenue areas and 1,254 villages of 22 districts have been affected by the floods. The worst affected district is Sribhumi, where 1,94,172 people are affected by the floods, followed by 77,961 people in Cachar district and 67,880 people in Nagaon.

3,365 houses have been damaged and more than 19 thousand people have been affected due to the floods caused by continuous heavy rains in Manipur for the last few days. People have been evacuated from the affected areas and taken to relief camps. These relief camps have been set up mostly in Imphal East district. Heigang, Wangkhei and Khurai assembly constituencies of Imphal East district are the most affected. Apart from these, Senapati district is also affected by the floods.
