A new FIR has been registered in connection with the stampede outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Karnataka during the victory parade of IPL winning team Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). This FIR has been reportedly lodged by a 25-year-old man who survived the stampede at the Cubbon Park Police Station. 11 people lost their lives in this incident.
According to news agencies ANI and PTI, a man named Rolan Gomes has filed an FIR blaming the Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise, Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) and DNA Agency for the stampede at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4.
What are the allegations made in the FIR?
Citing negligence and mismanagement during the celebration of RCB’s victory at the stadium, Gomes alleged in his complaint that he came to the event after seeing RCB’s social media posts indicating that tickets would be issued at the venue and entry could be made without tickets. The complainant further alleged that RCB also promoted the victory parade in an open bus.
‘Shoulder injury and had to be hospitalized’
News agency PTI, citing the FIR, reported that when Gomes reached Gate No. 17, a stampede broke out, during which his shoulder joint was dislocated and he was admitted to VS Hospital for treatment. He alleged that huge chaos was witnessed, there was no crowd control, misleading information was given and negligence of the organizers as well as administrative officials was also seen.
Earlier also, an FIR was registered against RCB, event management firm DNA and Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA). Four officials of RCB and event management company DNA Entertainment Private Limited were detained in the case. At the same time, the Karnataka High Court directed the state police not to take any punitive action against KSCA officials in connection with the stampede.
