UP Marriage Registration Rules: In Uttar Pradesh, it will no longer be easy to get married secretly and register it without the consent of the family. In compliance with the order of the Allahabad High Court, IG Registration has issued new interim guidelines regarding marriage registration.
Earlier, registration was allowed on the basis of the wedding venue, due to which many times complaints of fake or forced marriages came to the fore. According to the government, this amendment is a decisive step towards stopping those frauds. Now marriage will not get legal status without proof and testimony. AIG Stamp Pushpendra Kumar informed that the government order was issued on Friday evening and this rule has come into effect from Saturday.
Oral testimony and affidavit of Pandit mandatory
Now only the photo or invitation card of the marriage will not be considered sufficient as proof of marriage. Oral testimony and affidavit of the priest or pandit who solemnizes the marriage have been made mandatory. The pandit will have to be physically present at the time of registration and he will have to submit his name, address, copy of Aadhar card, valid identity card, mobile number and passport size photo.
It will now be necessary to keep a record of every marriage
A register will be kept in every marriage registration office in which a monthly record of registered marriages will be prepared in which it will be mandatory to provide all the information. This record will be required to be certified by the Assistant Inspector General. The aim of the new guidelines is to make the marriage registration process transparent, ensure family consent and eliminate the possibility of fraud. This is also likely to stop child marriage, forced marriage and other social problems.
