Indian Railways today launched ‘Bharat Gaurav’ train to visit important places associated with the heritage of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. All the seats of the train that departed today were full.

Bharat Gaurav Express train was flagged off from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus railway station in Mumbai in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and the train departed with passengers to showcase the glorious history of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj of Maharashtra. Central Railway said that this train is getting tremendous response and all the seats of the train that left today were full.

This tour will include many iconic places associated with the life and heritage of Shivaji Maharaj, giving passengers a unique experience of Maratha history and culture. An official said, “A total of 710 passengers will go on this journey, out of which 480 will be in Sleeper class, 190 in Comfort (3AC) class and 40 in Superior (2AC) class. On the first day, the train will reach Mangaon railway station. Let’s know what this 6-day tour will be like-

6 Day Heritage Tour

Day-1 Raigad Fort; Dinner and overnight stay in Pune.

Day-2 Lal Mahal, Kasba Ganpati and Shivsrishti, overnight stay in Pune.

Day-3 Shivneri, Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga Temple, overnight stay in Pune.

Day-4 Satara, Pratapgad Fort.

Day-5 Mahalaxmi Temple, Panhala Fort.

Day-6 Arrival in Mumbai.

Full itinerary-
This train covers historical sites like Raigad Fort, Shivneri Fort, Pratapgad Fort, Panhala Fort, Lal Mahal, Kasba Ganpati and Shivsrishti, which are great heritage sites of the city. Depicting important aspects of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s life. Two additional attractions include Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga and the Mahalakshmi Temple in Kolhapur. With convenience and accessibility, this train offers passengers a seamless experience of exploring the glorious past and rich cultural heritage of Maharashtra.

In detail, on the first day of this 6-day tour, the train will arrive at Mangaon Railway Station on the Konkan Railway network, which is the nearest railway link to Raigad Fort. The first destination is Raigad, known for the hill fort of the same name, where Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was crowned and later it was his capital. On completion of the sightseeing tour, tourists will return back to the train as it will proceed to the next destination Pune, where tourists will have dinner and spend the night at a hotel in Pune.

On the second day of the tour, the major sites that tourists will see in Pune are Lal Mahal, Kasba Ganpati and Shivsrushti. The current structure was rebuilt in 1984 on a part of that land The temple of Kasba Ganapati, the presiding deity of Pune, dates back to 1893 and is believed to have been built by Jijabai, the mother of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Since then, the city has been known as the City of Ganesha. Later in the day, tourists will visit Shivsrushti, the largest historical theme park showcasing the legend of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Tourists will see the life story of the Maratha ruler in 3D here and enjoy other interactive sessions.

After a night’s rest in Pune, on the third day guests will visit Shivneri. It is the birthplace of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and a symbol of Maratha pride and resistance against Muslim rule. After lunch tourists will visit Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga Temple, one of the 12 Jyotirlinga temples, before returning to Pune for overnight stay.

On the fourth day of the itinerary, tourists will further travel to Satara After the visit, tourists will have lunch at a suitable place and head back to the train, as the train proceeds from here to Kolhapur, the final destination of the journey. After a bath and breakfast at the hotel, tourists will visit the Mahalakshmi temple, popularly known as Ambabai and then head to Panhala Fort. Situated atop the Sahyadri ranges, this hill fort has witnessed many battles and has a deep connection with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj spent more than 500 days there. He was held captive here and later escaped. Panhala Fort is also known as the ‘Fort of Snakes’ because It is zigzag in shape. This fort is associated with the life history of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Shambhaji Maharaj. It is remembered for the valor shown by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s general Baji Prabhu Deshpande during the battle to capture the fort.

The train starts back to Mumbai in the late evening and reaches Mumbai on the morning of the sixth day. The all-inclusive price in all categories will include train travel in the respective categories, night stay in comfortable hotels, all meals (vegetarian only), all transfers in buses and sightseeing, travel insurance, services of tour escorts, etc. All necessary efforts will be made to provide a safe and memorable experience to the travellers.
