Delhi Road Projects Approved: To make Delhi and NCR jam-free, a meeting was held recently between Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, in which the construction of 2 major road projects has been approved at a cost of about Rs 10,000 crore. A 17-km long new highway connecting Urban Extension Road 2 (UER 2) near Tronica City to the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway has been approved.
After completion, the project will reduce the traffic load on internal roads, thereby reducing the pressure on National Highway-48, National Highway-44, Ring Road and Barapullah Elevated Corridor. The estimated construction cost of the project is Rs 3,300 crore.
Another project approved from Tronica City
According to officials, connecting UER 2 to Delhi-Dehradun (which starts near Akshardham Temple) will provide faster connectivity to vehicles coming from Haryana and Rajasthan, which leads to Dehradun. Another project to build a 65 km long highway connecting Tronica City to the under-construction Faridabad-Noida-Ghaziabad Expressway or FNG Expressway has been approved.
The project will connect 5 major routes of NCR
According to the plan, this highway will connect five major routes of NCR (Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, Delhi-Meerut Expressway, Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, DND-Faridabad Highway and Yamuna Expressway). The document states, “This national highway will provide connectivity to NCR cities like Loni, Baghpat, Ghaziabad, Noida and Faridabad along with North and South-West Delhi. This will help decongest internal roads and city centres like Sarai Kale Khan section and Kalindi Kunj and provide an alternative for inter-city and goods traffic.”
Tender for preparing DPR
Tender has been issued for appointment of consultant to prepare DPR for this project, estimated cost of construction is Rs 7,500 crore. After the high-level meeting, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta had said, “The Center has started projects to reduce traffic congestion in Delhi at a total cost of Rs 1.25 lakh crore.
