The Burlton Park Sports Hub, to be built at a cost of Rs 78 crore, is a landmark project. Addressing the gathering after laying the foundation stone, Arvind Kejriwal called it a historic day. He said that this initiative will provide opportunities to thousands of people to take up sports and maintain a healthy lifestyle. He also informed that this will be the first sports complex of its kind in the country and will be completed within a year.
‘Broke the backbone of the drug network’
Arvind Kejriwal asserted that Punjab was once a leader in many fields, including sports, but its downfall was due to the backward policies of traditional political parties. He held these parties responsible for increasing the drug menace and asserted that the ‘War against Drug Abuse’ has now broken the backbone of the drug network. He highlighted the government’s bold actions, such as seizing and demolishing properties of drug traffickers through Operation Bulldozer.
‘A big step in anti-drug drive’
Arvind Kejriwal said the renovation of Burlton Park is a strategic step in the anti-drug drive and state-of-the-art stadiums will soon be built in every village to keep the youth away from drugs. He reiterated that the initiative is aimed at establishing Punjab as a leading state in the country. Arvind Kejriwal also referred to the state’s industry-friendly stance, which has attracted significant investments.
‘All sections benefited in 3 years’
Arvind Kejriwal referred to the establishment of new focal points across Punjab and the launch of the FastTrack Punjab portal, so that investors can get all necessary approvals within 45 days. He said Punjab, known for its courage and entrepreneurial spirit, is now poised to lead India’s industrial boom. He further said that in the last three years, the state government has launched several initiatives benefiting all sections of the society and this momentum will continue in future as well.
‘Punjab lagging behind in sports due to political mismanagement’
In his address, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann referred to the legacy of Jalandhar that it has produced exceptional sportspersons who have brought international fame to the country, especially in hockey. He said that many players of India’s national hockey team are from this district, whose three generations have come from its grounds. The Chief Minister said that Punjab lagged behind in sports due to political mismanagement over the years.
Bhagwant Singh Mann asserted that the state’s lost glory in athletics will be restored through strategic efforts. Reviving sports is the central pillar of the ‘War against Drugs’ campaign, he said, adding that it aims to channelize the energy of the youth in constructive directions. The Chief Minister also announced that the historic Burlton Park will be named after a great Punjabi athlete to get rid of the colonial legacy.
